Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva last night arrived at Bole International Airport, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia for an official working visit. Taye Aske-Selassie, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia, greeted him upon arrival at the airport.
He will be attending the 37th African Union summit. On February 14, Lula da Silva wrote on his X page (formerly Twitter) :
“I’m leaving for Egypt this Carnival Tuesday. Next, I visit Ethiopia for the African Union meeting. Always working together with Dr. Geraldo. Brazil has strong historical and cultural relations with the African continent and we must reclaim the potential of this partnership.”
Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed on Friday extended an official welcome ceremony in his office and held discussions with him.
“Today, it is my honor to extend an official welcome to Brazil’s President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva on his State visit to Ethiopia. During our discussions, we have addressed various bilateral and multilateral issues, reflecting the depth of our relationship. As Ethiopia joins the esteemed ranks of the BRICS group, we eagerly anticipate strengthened collaboration with Brazil, viewing our meeting as a pivotal step towards forging a robust partnership,” Abiy Ahmed wrote on his social media page.
Regarding his meeting with Ethiopian Prime Minister, Lula da Silva said “
I was received by the Prime Minister of Ethiopia, @AbiyAhmedAli , and we talked about the relationship between our countries and the increase in trade between us. We also talk about the potential for the evolution of these relations with Ethiopia’s entry into the BRICS and the G20 taking place this year in Brazil, and the importance of rethinking global governance”
