Recep Type Erdogan’s government managed to put down military coup.
Erdogan, according to The Guardian’s report, was on vacation the southern parts of the country when the military undertook the coup which lasted only for five hours before it was controlled. Erdogan’s plane was denied landing in Istanbul.
A report by RT, Russian media, says that Edrogan appeared on CNN Turk via Face Time (social media) and called on the people to take to the streets. He is said to have stated that those who are responsible to the military coup will pay a heavy price and that challenge will be overcome.
After taking over government institutions, the military faction that carried out the coup declared that “Turkish Armed Fores have taken completely over the administration of the country to reinstate constitutional order, human rights and freedoms, the rule of law and the general security that was damaged…
All international agreements are still valid.We hope that all of our good relationships with all countries will continue.”
As it turned out, the coup was rather unsuccessful.
Fighting in Ankara and Istanbul caused at least 42 deaths. A fighter jet shot down military helicopter and Turkish parliament building is bombed from air. At least 16 police are reportedly killed.
Turkey has the second largest military in NATO next to the United States.
Ethiopia is one the countries of investment destinations for Turkey in Eastern Africa. Turkey has been recently very active in Eastern Africa including in Somalia in the realms of charitable work and investment.
