Russian passenger plane, Kolavia Flight Number 7K9268, crashed in the Sinai desert in Egypt earlier today, reported RT citing Russian and Egyptian authorities.
The Plane was traveling from the Egyptian Red Sea resort town Sharm El-Sheikh International Airport to St. Petersburg with 224 passengers on board including crew members. No survivors reported from this tragic incident.
The report indicated that the crash site is 35 kilometers south of the Sinai city of Arish.
According to Ahram online,an Egyptian news source, the plane lost communication around 6:20am Cairo time and was at an altitude of 30,000 feet at the time when communication was lost.
Ahram online reported added that the black box is recovered by an aviation team and bodies of victims is transported to Suez and Cairo.
Kremlin website published news update that Russian president Vladimir Putin “instructed the Prime Minister to form a state commission to investigate the crash of a Russian plane in Egypt” and signed an executive order declaring national mourning day on November 1, 2015.
Citing Russian Embassy in Egypt, Ahram online reported that Russian Ministry of emergency already sent five planes to the crash site as part of the investigation effort.
No foul play is indicated at this point in time. However, there seem to be widespread skepticism that the accident is very suspicious. Some even tend to relate it to Russian involvement in Middle East to help fight against extremist groups like ISIS.
President Vladimir Putin is reportedly deeply saddened by the incident.
