Toronto – Oromia region special forces and Oromo Liberation Army (OLF) this week reportedly opened a joint attack in Bulen district of the Benishangul Gumuz region.

Ethio News report aired on Monday this week said the Gumuz people living in the area near by a gold mining site were targets of the attack.

Benishangul Gumuz region special forces reported to the military situation. They reportedly fought for three days.

At least 17 Benishangul Gumuz region special forces are reportedly killed but the number of casualties on the part of Oromia forces is unspecified.

According to the source, it was the OLA that launched the attack first and Oromia region special forces joined later.

Controlling the gold mining area in the area where the joint forces started the attack was the cause. While Ethio News cited sources from the area, it remained unclear if the Oromia forces remained in control of the area.

The regional government has not remarked about the development.
