Residents of Hintalo in Tigray region, northern Ethiopia, reportedly protested over what they call government unwillingness to address their demands.

Youth groups from the area reportedly closed road between Mekelle and Samre for about three days now. And they are vowing that they will not open it until the region’s acting president and chairman of Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF), Debretsion Gebremichael meets them to address their demands.

Residents claim that Hintalo are meets all the qualifications to be organized as a district but authorities do not seem to be willing to make that happen.

Voice of America Amharic Service reporter in the region Mulugeta Asbaha said he tried to reach out to regional authorities to get their side of the story but there appeared to be disinterest to respond.

There was also another reported protest and road closure along Shire-Endaselassie-Shiraro road.

According to DW Amharic Service, the regional government has been working on reform measures with the intention to introduce changes to the way districts are organized. Intellectuals were delegated to conduct a study, and there seems to interest to organize districts based on resource and administrative convenience.

It is to be recalled that opposition parties operating in Tigray region have been accusing TPLF led regional government of making peaceful political struggle impossible due to excessive repression.

  1. Oromos should work hard to replace amharic with Oromifaa It may take time and resources , but you could still manage to kick our amharas from shoa and thier language, full of vulgar words like its speakers!

    Look at https://www.lexilogos.com/keyboard/amharic.html

Amharas claim they own Geez alphabet which is created and implemented During Axumite kingdom.

We need to ban amharic written books , videos others in the school. Children should learn thier own langauge. However, we might need to practice Oromifaa as Oromos are thier strong future partners with whom we need to work cooperatively.

Developped countries teach languages of thier neighbouring countries at school. We schould respect with one another and work for our common interest as these countries do .

Our Children are absorbed and showed longing for amharic products since we thier parents are not teaching thieir own culture: tradition, literature, music art etc .

This was mistakenly aired via our own media outlets for centuries that why we are having difficult to get an independent nation. when one thing repeats itself it becomes normal and sticks itself with out own culture in a way it becomes hard to segregate it.

  2. You are not Gurage why dont you use other name? Im Gurage and I do not know any Gurage who thinks like you

My Freind, language is just a communication means and it is not an identity. If language is an identity then I would have have been considered 1/3 English man. If language is an identity then a billion Indians, half a billion black Africans and 40 million African American people would have be considered English ethnic group because they speak English as fluent as English/British men. I speak Amharic and English and I do not consider myself as an Amhara or English man.

I am Habesha (mixed/teyim black) by race, Ethiopian by nationality, Gurage by ethnicgroup, Addis Ababan by birth place, Christian Orthodox by religion, man by gender, African by continent, I have also tribal identity (as you know there are over 10 tribes under Gurage ethnicgroup) and also I have clan (family ancestry) identity and Im proud of all my identities. I can entertain all these identities only if I have a country and my country or nation is Ethiopia. I believe that our ancestors from the over 80 ethnicgroups of Ethiopia have been mixing/intermarrying for 1000s of years so there is no way I can claim to be Im pure of x y ethinicgroup, therefore whatever all ethnic groups call their own they should know that it is also mine.

My message for the ignorants: if they are realy concerned about their identity then read history from all sources, its only a historian who can tell once identity not a politician. If you have no time reading history talk with your father and grand father and ask them about the ancestry of their neighbors in their rural village. If possible go to your families rural village and get to know the many clans in your village and their ancestry history. Im sure that some clans trace their ancestry from south, some from north, some from east or west eventhough they speak your parents language.

  3. Brother John, he pretends to bo an Oromo who would like to see oromigna rather than Amharigna I will say to this Weyane messenger he is a disgraced indvidual, he and his likes Bikele Gerba or Jawar Mohammed a coldblooded murderer won’t represent me as I am Ethiopian first and foremost , and Oromo second. They don’t trick us any more in their dirty games through their stupid claims and dirty action as of today millions of Oromos, we have decided not to cast our vote to these criminals and bloodthirsty individuals.
    God bless Ethiopia.
