Toronto –  at least 15  civilians are reportedly killed and three others injured as Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) launched a fresh military attack in the North Gondar area of the Amhara region of Ethiopia.

Ethiopia Media Services (EMS) reported about it on Tuesday in a breaking news coverage after receiving a video footage purportedly showing the attack in the area.  The video footage appears to have graphic images showing the bodies of the victims.

The attack happened on the night of June 3 around 4 a.m. in Adarkay district of North Gondar, Ali Ghiorgis Kebele. Apart from those civilians killed and wounded, three other civilians were reportedly taken by  TPLF forces.

Almost all of the victims were reportedly attacked while they were sleeping.

The TPLF forces who unleashed the attack in the rural community are said to have come from the Debre Abay area.

Getachew Reda, president of the Interim Regional Administration of Tigray, usually quick to remark on security incidents and political development, did not seem to have cared about the development in North Gondar. He did not remark about the security development at the time of this writing.

The TPLF itself as an organization did not remark about it either.  The Amhara regional administration and the Federal government did not bother to remark about the TPLFs’ reported fresh attack on ethnic  Amhara in Adarkay district.

Part of the North Gondar area has been described by the TPLF and its international backers – including the United States – as “Western Tigray.”

.

This week, Abiy Ahmed’s cabinet ministers approved a new electoral and political parties governance law  that could allow groups who were engaged in terrorist activity to be reaccepted as legitimate political parties when “they demonstrate an interest in peaceful and legal political activity.”  The Ethiopian Parliament on Tuesday approved that law.

Abiy Ahmed’s led Federal government seems to have a conviction that the TPLF has “demonstrated interest in peaceful and legal political activity” despite the military activities that the organization has been making first in Raya Alamata and on Monday in Adarkay, North Gondar.

In March 2024, the TPLF deployed a huge force in Raya Alamata – areas that the TPLF and Interim Administration in the area – consider as South Tigray. The action caused a military clash, loss of at least three civilian lives and more than 50,000 residents in the area were displaced.

Despite all that, the Federal government seems to be working to enable TPLF to regain its legal political party status. The organization has more than 270,000 armed combatants and it is the only party with armed forces of its own. The Ethiopian Parliament designated the organization as a terrorist group in May 2021 following the attack the latter carried out against the Northern Command of the Ethiopian Defense Force.

  1. There we go again. The nightmare of the big elephant in the room relives again and the wth help of unlikely mentor.: the amateurish and wanna-be despot and maniac Abiy . There won’t be sense of peace and order, let alone fancy democracy and accountability, as long as his ilk is abusing, screwing up and short changin the public for years.
